tips: how to stretch out leather shoes (better than a blow dryer)

there are certain things you need to consider before you begin this procedure.  first and most importantly, the shoes must be made of genuine leather material.  it will not work on synthetic and patent leather.  second, check the outsoles of your shoes if they are stitched and not just glued together.  this is to make sure that your beloved shoes will withstand minutes under water.  third, you should have at least 3 hours or more of free time to complete the whole procedure.

step 1.  completely submerge the shoes on a bucket of water or kitchen sink.  wait for 10 minutes.  the water will help soften the leather so they can mold easily to your feet as they dry.  i suggest not to do this on light colored shoes to avoid water stains.

step 2.  wear the wet shoes.  not the best feeling on earth but it will be worth it.  you may use thick cotton socks.

step 3.  stretch out the leather focusing more on problem areas.  this is not going to work if you will just sit still.  you have to walk around the house, dance, squat and jump, or do anything that involves flexing your feet.

step 4.  apply leather conditioner when the shoes are 80% dry.

step 5.  you must keep the shoes on your feet.  it may be tempting to take them off, but doing so will only make the shoes return to their original size.  drying the shoes indoor will take approximately 3 hours with the help of electric fan.  it is best to dry them slowly to avoid possible discoloration and water marks.  re-apply leather conditioner when completely dry.
