diy: from humble banig to large-scale wall art

i was smitten by this geometric designed woven mat the first time i saw it.  so, with the help of our trusted all-around house repairman, i decided to frame it sans glass protector to better appreciate the intricate details of the material.  i picked red paint for the frame because i love the kicky combination of orange and red, contrasted by the cool blue-violet woven mat.  the finished diy project found a place in our super small dining area, which provides a perfect juxtaposition of scale.

materials include woven mat, pre-cut wood borders, plywood, paint and brush, stapler, screws, and scrap metal sheet as wall art hangers.

stretch the woven mat on the plyboard.  try to center it as much as possible.

neatly fold edges and miter corners.  start stapling.

screw the pre-cut wood borders in place.  screws provide much better grip than nails.

attach the scrap metal sheet and wire to serve as your art hangers.

paint as usual.  dry completely before hanging.

done!  step back and appreciate your one-of-a-kind wall art!
