sure, you can buy factory-made bag stuffers, but why spend on something you can easily make for free? you can even customize the size and shape of your bag stuffers according to your liking. so, let's get started.
i should give credit to marie kondo for this bag stuffer idea. it is quite fun, actually. look for small-sized bags that you can fit easily inside a large-sized bag. while doing this, i found out that the perfect candidate for this are large, rectangular-shaped bags. also, it wouldn't hurt if your "container" bags are made of genuine leather material because it can better hold the weight of smaller bags inside.
weekenders and boston bags are perfect for clothes that you don't wear anymore, but not quite good enough as rags. outdated sweaters and cardigans are just right for this job. you may want to place them inside a spare pillowcase so you can take it in and out of the bag with ease.
for travel and luggage bags, you can can fill them with items that you don't normally use on a day-to-day basis. some examples of these are stash of gifted makeups (because i don't wear any), wallets and coin purses (that are too cute to let go), lasik eye surgery kit, travel kit, gwp bag organizers, et cetera.
packing materials such as paper fillers, plastic wraps, and bubble wraps are excellent stuffings for your bags because they are specifically meant to provide shape, protection, and support to your shipped items. it only goes to show that all stuff, even those considered as trash, are meant to be used more than once.
flat and semi-flat bags could benefit from your surplus supply of throws and blankets. you may also use old curtains as long as they are not heavy or rough to touch. just fold them neatly ala konmari style.
for oversized tote bags, you can put your backpacks inside them. here, i used my favorite locally-made habi bag and northloom backpack bag as an example. the habi beach bag is humongous - and i could definitely fit more than one backpack in there!
never ever, ever, ever stack bags. stacking will only squash the poor bags at the bottom and have a lesser chance of being used. these diy bag stuffers will help provide shape on your beloved collection so you can store them vertically....and beautifully!
