before you start painting your ceramic tiles, please make sure it is not located in a high-traffic area and it should not come in frequent contact with water. the old tiles in my walk-in closet are used for aesthetic purpose only, therefore i decided to paint it with boysen permacoat latex paint. i searched high and low, but i just couldn't find any tile makeover kit near my area. if you have this kit, which is epoxy-based paint, then you should use that for better result.
prepare your areas to be painted with undiluted isopropyl alcohol to remove dirt, dust, and grease. you may or may not sand it depending on how smooth your tiles are. i didn't sand or primed the tiles in my closet as they were purchased from second-chance tile factory and fairly beaten down. if you want a much longer lasting result, then you should never skip this part.
paint as usual. dry for at least 6 hours or overnight. do not mess with wet paint as it will cause ugly smudges resulting to uneven final result. i did two thin coats and topped off with one thick even coat while completely drying in-between. it took me two full days to finally finish this little project due to drying time.
that's it! fast, easy, and economical way to update your old tiles!
final note. as with all acrylic/latex paints, it can get scratched off easily with pointed objects. however, it can last for years and years since i had been painting tiles as craft projects before. you may seal it with clear acrylic gloss, although more often than not, the paint itself is good enough for me. finally, clean with damp (not wet) soap and water solution as needed.
